Welcome to the Star City Astronomy Network

The Star City Astronomy Network (SCAN) is a group of astronomy enthusiasts that actually spend time observing the night sky. There are no "armchair astronomers" here. A requirement of being in this group is being active in observational astronomy and astronomy outreach.

SCAN does not have meetings. We meet when we observe.

SCAN and the Girl Scouts SCAN had the pleasure of working with the Girl Scouts on an Astronomy Event on Friday, February 19, 2009. This is a very successful event, and we are looking forward to working with the Girl Scouts in the future.
SCAN News - SCAN Founding Member, Michael Overacker, has completed his Master Outreach Certification with the Astronomical League. Michael has completed over 170 hours of Astronomy Outreach to over 4300 people. His outreach has been to the general public, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, public and private schools, colleges, and private programs and events.
Astronomy Day Success

SCAN News - The Astronomy Mobile Outreach Vehicle (AMOV) was at the Mustang and Ford Powered RoundUp Car and Truck Show on Saturday, May 2, 2009 from 10:00 AM until 3:00 PM at the Tanglewood Mall Firestone for Astronomy Day 2009. Hundreds of people took advantage of the telescopes set up for solar viewing, as well as the meteorites on display. A very successful event.

SCAN News - SCAN member, Michael Overacker, was recently awarded the Clifford W. Holmes Grant by the Riverside Telescope Makers Conference. This grant is awarded to people who are active in Astronomy Outreach and have proven their ability to work toward the promotion of Astronomy to the general public.
